UNILIA student shines at Mpoto Awards


Uchindami Msowoya, a final-year Journalism and Development Communication student at the University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) Kaning’ina Campus, has won the renowned Radio Personality of the Year award at the Mpoto Awards held at the Grand Palace.

Known affectionately as "Muzungu Mutumbuka," Msowoya’s unique style and engaging presentation captivated audiences and set her apart from the competition.

"Winning this award feels amazing I didn’t expect it, and it’s such a special moment for me."

 "It shows that I made a real impact in the broadcasting industry." Msowoya shared.

She credits her success to her authenticity and creative approach to radio.

 "I was always myself, but I added my unique style as Muzungu Mutumbuka," she explained. 

"My approach to presenting connected well with the audience, and they appreciated it."

Despite facing challenges such as financial constraints and balancing work with studies.

"The journey wasn’t always easy, but I stayed focused, divided my time carefully, and kept pushing until I made it." She added.

Looking ahead, Msowoya plans to launch a podcast to continue engaging with her audience.

 She also remains committed to her roles as a Marketing Manager and associate lecturer at Exploits University-Mzuzu campus.
